Cryptologic: Disney's Marvel buyout no threat to games deal
CryptoLogic has dismissed fears that the recent US$4bn takeover of comic book stable Marvel by entertainment giant Disney might spell the end of its licensing agreement with Marvel.

CRYPTOLOGIC HAS dismissed fears that the recent US$4bn takeover of comic book stable Marvel by entertainment giant Disney might spell the end of its licensing agreement with Marvel.
CryptoLogic produces games based on Marvel Entertainment’s stable of superheroes such as the Ironman and Hulk (pictured). Fears have been raised that Disney will back away from gambling entertainment for the sake of the company’s carefully maintained ‘wholesome’ brand image.
Fans of Marvel characters have already been critical of the takeover, saying that the superheroes will be ‘Disneyfied’ and lose their ‘edge’ to appeal to Disney’s target family demographic.
However CryptoLogic said that the company was confident that the relationship would continue. Vice-president for business development Justin Thouin told EGRmagazine.com: “We recently renewed our agreement with Marvel and as a result will continue to be the exclusive online casino gaming provider of Marvel comic book characters through at least 2013. We do not anticipate the potential purchase of Marvel by Disney to impact our ability to continue to offer these games.”
