Danish casino numbers slide in third quarter
Sports betting shows minor increase but overall GGR sits halfway between Q1 and Q2 totals.

An 8.5% fall in gross gaming revenue in dot.dk poker and casino saw the Danish egaming market experience a minor quarter-on-quarter decline in the three months ended 30 September.
A slight uptick from online sports betting, which saw GGR grow 1.9% quarter-on-quarter to DKK270m (£29.4m), meant overall market GGR of DKK485m bisected the totals for the first and second quarters.
Regulatory authority SKAT suggests games such as poker, where duty is paid on commission, contribute approximately 25% of online casino GGR.
While details have not yet been provided on other forms of gambling such as gaming machines and lotteries, the projected full-year GGR of DKK7.5bn is in line with estimates made at the end of the second quarter. Online gambling is anticipated to contribute DKK1.94bn of the total, or 25.9% of the wider market.
The Danish egaming market opened up on 1 January this year following the award of the first dot.dk licences last December. Among the licensees are 888, bet365, Betfair and Sportingbet.
Meanwhile Swedish-listed Betsson and Unibet, that also received licences at the beginning of this year, have since acquired other Danish-facing operators to strengthen their respective positions.
Betsson followed up its 2011 acquisition of Betsafe by agreeing a 65m deal for Nordic Gaming Group in April, while Unibet boosted its dot.dk market share with the acquisition of Bet24 during the same month. Sportingbet acquired Danish-facing sportsbooks Danbook and Scandic in January this year.
