Danish Q2 online casino revenues rise 18%
But online sports betting suffers a 4% dip on the previous quarter, while poker's market share also drops

Denmark’s gambling market recorded an 18% year-on-year rise in online casino revenues during Q2 2016, while sports betting suffered a small dip in revenue compared to the previous quarter.
According to numbers released by the Danish Gambling Authority, online casino (including poker) gross gaming revenues (GGR) increased from DKK 335m (£37.9m) to DKK 395m (£45m) this year.
Online poker’s GGR for the period amounted to DKK 40m, with its market share falling to 10% of the total online casino market.
GGR for online sports betting stood at DKK 355m (£40.5m) during the quarter, 4% lower than the DDK 370m (£41.8m) compared to Q1 2016. There was no year-on-year comparison available.
The channel amounted for 65.5 % of the market during the quarter, a slight increase from the 63.5% totalled in the previous quarter.
Furthermore, the regulator has launched a new mobile app to enable players to register with its ROFUS scheme for problem gamblers.
The app allows users to follow its gaming consumption, test for its gambling addiction and find treatment facilities.
The number of Danes registered in ROFUS has grown to approximately 7,500 to-date.
“It is important that we, as an authority in the field, do our part to raise awareness of the means to prevent a possible gambling problem,” Danish Gambling Authority director, Birgitte Sand, said.
“We will therefore launch a series of initiatives to raise awareness of the rules of the gaming legislation with particular focus on ROFUS and with an App, where people can track their gaming usage and test themselves for gambling addiction,” Sand added.
