Danske Spil launches mandatory deposit limits
Players will now be required to set deposit limits and will receive time limit pop ups

Former Danish monopoly operator Danske Spil has launched mandatory deposit limits for its online casino and sports betting customers.
Players will now be required to set daily, weekly and monthly deposit limits on the operator’s Casino and Oddset brands, and will be unable to play online until a limit has been set.
Lottery and instant win game players will have the option to set deposit limits, but these will not be mandatory.
Niels Erik Folmann, CEO of Danske Licens Spil, highlighted deposit limits as a tool which help players better control their games.
“We want our customers to play with care and would like to help them be aware of their game consumption,” Folmann added.
Danske Spil also confirmed it would introduce online pop-up messages, informing players of their spend and how long they have been playing at set points during their playing session, similar to ‘reality checks’ in the UK
The new controls are the latest efforts in the Danish market to tackle problem gambling.
Initiatives to date have included the capping of bonuses, enforcement of self-exclusion schemes and the creation of a voluntary code of conduct for advertising for gambling, which was unveiled by the Danish Online Gambling Association in March.
In addition to these initiatives, operators are required to use pop-up windows containing information on game time and gaming spend.
The requirement for these to be used has not formally been introduced yet, but Folmann said there was “no excuse to wait, neither for the politicians nor for our industry associates” in launching these tools for Danish players.
“We hope our customers will generally welcome the opportunity to be kept up to date with knowledge of their gameplay. Pop-up messages may remind you that it may be time to take a break and do something else,” Folmann added.
