Dutch and Alderney regulators sign collaborative agreement
Letter of Intent signed as Dutch Gaming Authority ramps up preparations for regulated market launch
The Netherlands Gaming Authority and the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC) have signed a Letter of Intent as the Dutch regulator continues to ramp-up operations in advance of the anticipated regulation of the Dutch market in 2016.
The formal agreement will see the two regulatory bodies assist each other with licensing and open up an information exchange with gambling services provided from Alderney available to the Dutch market.
The Letter of Intent is in anticipation of the introduction of online gambling legislation – the Dutch bill is expected to be passed later this year with the first licences issued in early 2016 – and a memorandum of understanding is expected to follow.
Dutch Gaming Authority chief executive Marja Appelman said she hoped the Dutch regulator would learn from the experience the AGCC has to offer.
“Although we still regulate only land-based bricks and mortar casinos, arcades, sportsbetting and lotteries in the Netherlands, the special skills required for regulating online gambling are something we can learn from Alderney,” Appelman said.
AGCC executive director Andre Wilsenach said agreements of this kind “strengthen our oversight of the industry” and would result in “extensive levels of inter co-operation” between national regulators.
“We see this as being of enormous benefit to all participating jurisdictions, not least Alderney operators who will gain access to these important markets,” Wilsenach added.
