Hyves follows Facebook in agreeing to remove ads on request from Netherlands Gambling Authority

Dutch social network Hyves has agreed to remove all advertising from unlicensed egaming operators at the request of the Dutch Gambling Authority (Kansspelautoriteit).
The site, which has more than two million active users in the EU Member State, has followed Facebook in falling in line with the gambling authority’s request.
The Kansspelautoriteit described the block as an “important step” in ensuring young and vulnerable people are not exposed to companies operating without a Dutch egaming licence.
“Through these measures and arrangements, the provision of illegal gambling and enticing young people to participate in illegal gambling [can] be countered,” it added.
The Netherlands remains hopeful of opening up its egaming market in January 2015, with the Kansspelautoriteit having published draft legislation in May this year. The regulatory proposals include 20% gross profits tax, while all products are set to be regulated and incumbent operator Holland Casino to be privatised.
