Dutch State Lottery cleared of irregularities
Investigation finds "no obvious evidence" of alleged irregularities but several recommendations for drawing process made
Dutch State Lottery operator Staatsloterij has been cleared of alleged irregularities in its drawing process following allegations its lottery results were open to manipulation.
In September reports emerged in the Dutch press alleging that processes at Staatsloterij supplied by Intralot were insecure, and Dutch newspaper Volskrant cited four former Intralot employees as having said it would be possible to manipulate the lottery’s results.
Staatsloterij dismissed the speculation, but it sparked an investigation from Dutch regulator Kansspelautoriteit and independent third-party Software Improvement Group into its drawing procedure.
A statement released by the regulator confirmed that “no obvious signs” of irregularities in the drawing process were identified, although made a number of undisclosed recommendations to ensure its integrity in the future.
The authority has given Staatsloterij three months in which to enact the recommendations, following which a follow-up check will be made.
Staatsloterij confirmed it had “fully cooperated” with the investigation and insisted it was not “an indication of fraud or misappropriation”.
“The Dutch State Lottery will nevertheless discuss additional recommendations to expand its duty and its controls even further,” a statement issued by the operator read.
