FanDuel launches recreational Mixups mode
New baseball format designed to minimize the competitive advantage of ‘sharks’

FanDuel has launched its new Mixup format, designed to offer a more recreational form of baseball DFS.
The new contests feature smaller rosters to make lineups easier to fill out and a changing weekly theme to ensure professional players don’t have time to write algorithms for the format.
Themes will include All Lefties, NL players only, or Road Warriors, according to FanDuel, with players asked to pick two pitchers and three position players for each entry.
Mixups was first announced before the MLB season, as part of a series of tweaks to baseball games, including the introduction of the season-long Friends format.
The firm said the changes were part of its “continued efforts to enhance the user experience,” although the season-long games will also enhance the company’s argument to competition authorities that it is part of the wider fantasy sports market rather than just DFS.
In other DFS innovation news, Draft announced on Wednesday it would be launching its own season long NFL format, where players must draft a team for the entire season and are unable to tweak it all year.
The firm is still working out the finer details of the project, asking fans on Twitter how rosters should be made up.
