Finland names newly-merged monopoly giant
State-owned 'Veikkaus' brand to commence operations on 1 January 2017
Finland’s newly-created state-owned monopoly giant will be branded as “Veikkaus” and begin trading at the beginning of next year.
Sports betting and lottery operator Veikkaus, casino and slots operator RAY and horseracing operator Fintoto will merge under the Veikkaus brand on 1 January 2017.
The new company will consist of around 2,000 employees and will create more than a billion euros a year for good causes in Finland.
A new brand and visual identity has also been created, with the Veikkaus name chosen due to its familiarity with Finnish players.
The monopoly giant added that a CEO will be appointed in June.
The rebrand follows Finland’s Ministry of the Interior decision to merge three of the country’s state-owned gambling operators in a bid to create a firm which can better safeguard Finland’s monopoly system.
“Responsibility and reliability are the basis for the company’s new game,” FRV Evo Oy chairman of the board Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said.
“Together, we can ensure a successful business revenue to the delight and benefit of all of us living in Finland,” he added.
