Former NSW regulator joins law firm Senet in head of advisory role
International Association of Gaming Regulators president Paul Newson joins Australian solicitor’s gambling law team

Australian gambling law firm Senet has appointed regulatory veteran and former Greyhound Racing New South Wales (NSW) CEO Paul Newson as its new head of advisory practice.
A former deputy secretary in charge of liquor and gambling NSW, Newson currently also serves as trustee for the province’s Responsible Gaming Fund.
He is also the current president of the International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR), which aims to advance the effectiveness and efficiency of international gaming regulation.
In his new role, Newson will be responsible for strategic planning, regulatory strategy and policy, independent reviews and investigations, product approvals, responsible gambling, risk management and compliance frameworks.

Senet was founded in 2018 by former general counsel of Tabcorp Julian Hoskins and operates a multidisciplinary approach focusing on providing legal, advisory and compliance-related services to operators.
The firm’s compliance academy, which provides learning and development training on compliance issues, is headed up by KPMG Australia markets manager Alexandra Hoskins.
Julian Hoskins said Newson would bring “unmatched regulatory knowledge and expertise” to Senet’s advisory operations.
“Paul led the strategic positioning and direction of the NSW Responsible Gambling Fund which substantially enhanced its capacity to tackle gambling-related harm,” he said.
“And given his advocacy for innovation and sustainable industry development, he’s a perfect fit for the work we do, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the team,” he added.
