
French sports betting revenues up 52% in Q1
ARJEL reports 51% increase in bets being placed during the quarter as modest growth reported in other verticals

Sports betting continues to lead the way in the French gaming market in Q1 2019 after revenues increased 52% year-on-year, according to the latest figures released by the regulator.
ARJEL reported sports betting gross gaming revenue (GGR) of €222m during Q1 2019, up from the €147m reported during the same period of 2018.
These strong numbers were buoyed by a 51% YoY increase in bets being placed, with total stakes of €1.3bn being reported during Q1.
Online poker revenues fell 1% YoY during the quarter to €68m, with revenues from cash games falling 3% in Q1 to €1m.
Revenues from horseracing rose 3% YoY during Q1 2019, topping €67m, while bets made on horseracing amounted to €273m during the quarter.
Player numbers increased in all three verticals, with the number of individuals betting on sports increasing the most, rising 42% to 655,000 players per week during Q1 2019.
Horseracing punter numbers rose 3% in Q1 to 154,000 players per week, while the number of poker players grew by a modest 2% during the quarter to 273,000.
