GambleAware awards £180,000 grant to Adfam
Substance abuse charity will now cater to problem gamblers

GambleAware has confirmed the award of a £180,000 grant to gambling charity Adfam, to help improve support for family members and friends affected by problem gambling.
The grant, which will be paid over the next three years, is part of a project that will enable Adfam to extend its current activities to include people affected by gambling and will see the charity work alongside GambleAware’s existing network of treatment providers.
Announcing the grant award, John McCracken, director of commissioning for GambleAware said: “We know only too well the impact that one person’s problem gambling can have on the people around them: their families and their friends.
“It is important that we support them as well as providing treatment for problem gamblers and the partnership with Adfam will make a real difference to the lives of people in very difficult situations.”
GamCare, the CNWL problem gambling clinic and the Gordon Moody association are also included in the charities national network, with GambleAware announcing that it would include the Gamban app in its problem gambling strategy earlier this month.
Vivienne Evans OBE, CEO of Adfam added: “At Adfam, we are delighted to have received funding from GambleAware to enable us to support families of gamblers. We have been working with families affected by substance misuse for over 30 years and this project marks an important development for our organisation, and for the affected families.
“We are looking forward to working with key partners to deliver a range of support and to raising the national awareness of the needs of those who do not gamble themselves but are nonetheless acutely affected by it.”
