GambleAware recruits David James as safer gambling ambassador
Former England goalkeeper urges punters to avoid impulsive bets in latest ad campaign

GambleAware has launched a new safer gambling ad campaign fronted by former England goalkeeper David James.
The new campaign – part of GambleAware’s Bet Regret initiative – will warn football fans against making impulsive bets during the international break in the absence of the Premier League.
James has also teamed up with the Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) for the new Beat The Break ad short which can be viewed below.
Ex-Portsmouth stopper James said: “Supporting safer gambling within football is something that is important to me.
“There is so much exposure to betting and it is increasingly easy to bet impulsively, so I want to encourage football fans to think twice about how they are betting.
“Helping fans beat the break this October is only the start and I’m looking forward to working with GambleAware and the FSA this season to raise awareness of Bet Regret,” he added.
More than 25 million people in the UK support a Premier League or Championship football club and, according to GambleAware, the international break is a time they find dull due to the gap in their team’s schedule.
The safer gambling charity suggests that boredom is one of three behaviours identified – along with being drunk and chasing losses – that can lead to placing impulsive bets and feelings of regret.
