Gamenet Group betting MD joins Fortuna as Romania CEO
Italian sports betting veteran Carlo Di Maio lands first chief executive role

Fortuna Entertainment Group has recruited Carlo Di Maio as the new CEO of its Romanian division.
Di Maio has joined the Prague-headquartered private betting operator from Italian giant Gamenet Group, where he served as betting MD for the operator’s Goldbet and Intralot brands.
The Italian had worked in his home country’s sports betting industry since 1997, occupying various product and sportsbook positions at firms including Gala Coral and Eurobet.
Di Maio’s new role at Fortuna is not only his first as a chief executive, but also his first outside of Italy. He will now be based in Bucharest at Fortuna’s Romanian headquarters.
Di Maio will now be responsible for managing the largest betting and gaming retail estate in Romania and has been tasked with growing the digital side of the business.
He started at Fortuna on 23 August and will report into Group CEO Per Widerström.
Di Maio told EGR: “I am proud to have the opportunity to be part of a large and well-established international group such as Fortuna that has very high expertise within the industry.
“It is a well-managed organisation with clear and ambitious objectives where I hope I can contribute and add value by leading a strong Romanian business with great people,” he added.
Fortuna restructured its technology and R&D departments in February which resulted in several personnel changes at the firm, which currently operates in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Romania and Croatia.
