Gaming giant Atari to launch online crypto casino
Video games developer embraces slots and live casino with Atari Token ICO scheduled for summer 2020

Games console specialist Atari is launching an online crypto casino and its own cryptocurrency – the Atari Token.
The New York City-based firm, which developed the iconic Pong video game, is expanding its product offering by entering the world of online gambling.
Atari Casino, which has yet to be given an official 2020 launch date, will feature classic online casino games and slots, as well as live casino.
Registration is open for the new platform, which Atari claims will be the ‘best online casino experience to date’.
Atari noted there will be no local geographical restrictions for the casino, meaning players from across the world can use the service.
Faster payouts, along with the opportunity to place higher stakes, were both highlighted as key features of the new platform.
Users can also use other cryptocurrencies and traditional online payment methods on the Atari Casino, which is registered in Gibraltar.
Atari said in a statement: “A non-exclusive licence has been granted to the ICICB Group to launch an online casino using cryptocurrencies, including the Atari Token.
“This casino website will, in due course, offer the most popular games, including Atari games, and the detailed terms will be announced at launch.”
The Atari Token is available to purchase through existing forms of cryptocurrency such as bitcoin, and is currently worth $0.08.
Atari stated that the eventual aim for the Atari Token is to be used across multiple mediums and not just for its casino platform.
Atari said: “Our goal is to make the Atari Token available to users and to develop over time as many use cases as possible, starting with casino games playable with cryptocurrencies.”
The Gibraltar government has stressed Atari’s registration in Gibraltar was unknown to the Gambling Commissioner, which would likely have made an objection to the registration in the public interest.
It said: “For the avoidance of doubt Atari Casino has neither applied for or been granted a gambling licence in Gibraltar and potential consumers should be aware of the online casino’s unlicensed and unregulated status.”
This article was amended on 09.04.20 to show that Atari Casino is not licensed from Gibraltar but registered in Gibraltar.
