Guardian newspaper launches sports betting site
Gowager.co.uk " powered by FSB Technology " is live and accepting bets on limited markets
The Guardian Media Group has become the latest publisher to enter the online gambling market with the addition of a sports-betting service on its website, eGaming Review can reveal.
The company has launched its UK-licensed gowager.co.uk site, in partnership with platform supplier FSB Technology, and is already taking bets on limited markets.
The sportsbook currently only appears on the ‘clubs’ section of the website is available on desktop only, however a mobile version has been developed and is set for an imminent launch.
It currently offers limited markets in football, horse racing, tennis and boxing, with more set to be added in the coming months.
eGR understands the Guardian plans to promote the site with sportsbook-related offers within its sports coverage.
The publisher follows in the footsteps of the Sun and the Mirror, who have launched their own online bingo sites, in its attempt to diversify its revenues streams.
The launch represents further good news for FSB Technology, run by GameAccount Network co-founder David McDowell, which recently secured a deal to supply Genting Alderney with its sports betting platform.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with such a well-respected, global media player and such a fantastic digital business,” McDowell said.
“We’ve worked really hard to integrate sports betting into the site in a non-obtrusive way and to fit with the great customer experience and content the site already offers.”
The company this week appointed Sportingbet founder Mark Blandford to the role of company chairman as part of the its plan to accelerate its growth strategy.
Blandford’s appointment came less than a month after he led a £2.6m financing round for the FSB with the cash set to be invested in its sports betting solution.
