Hero Gaming names ex-Hills International MD as CEO
Malta-headquartered operator recruits Patrick Jonker to replace Tomas Backman who left the role in October 2021

Hero Gaming has appointed former William Hill International MD Patrick Jonker as its new CEO.
Jonker joins the operator after leaving Hills International in October 2021, as exclusively revealed by EGR.
Jonker began his stint with Hills in March 2019 having joined from Betsson where he served as MD from October 2014.
He switched to Hero Gaming on 1 February and will oversee all operations from the company’s base in Malta.
Jonker replaces former CEO Tomas Backman who left Hero Gaming in October 2021 to become a partner at investment company Waahlin Holdings.
Speaking on his arrival, Jonker said: “The conversations that I have had with the management team shows the great ambition and, most of all, enthusiasm to grow the company. I am very much attracted to the agile way of working and the great foundations that are already in place.
“Together with the management team, I will be working on the strategy and future plans to make sure that we are one of the winning companies and outgrow any competition,” he added.
Georg Westin, Hero Gaming chairman, commented: “The combination of his experience, his leadership qualities and culture fit has made Patrick the ideal fit for us as a company for our next phase of growth and we very much look forward to having him in his new role.”
Last year, Hero Gaming offloaded its Swedish-licensed igaming brands to Paf.
