Interwetten rolls out sports betting in Nigeria
European bookmaking stalwart to offer sports betting via interwetten.ng in Africa’s most populous country

Interwetten has entered the Nigerian market, marking the operator’s first foray into Africa in its 30-year history.
The Vienna-founded bookmaker, which boasts around 1.8 million customers globally, will serve up a mobile-first product portfolio of pre-match and live sports betting, as well as virtual sports and esports betting.
Through a national licence from the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC), Interwetten has the right to offer betting nationally in the West African country via the new domain interwetten.ng.
The site has been streamlined for the Nigerian market and includes local payment options, while the launch will be supported by marketing campaigns across a mix of channels.
Nigeria’s population of almost 200 million and an enormous enthusiasm for sports, particularly the major European football leagues, were keys factor in the operator’s decision to enter the country.

Interwetten’s Dominik Beier
Interwetten CEO Dominik Beier said: “We can now draw on 30 years of experience in the European market and introduce a product with the highest standards and innovative products to the Nigerian market.”
While Beier said the market has its challenges, there are also a variety of opportunities. “The enthusiasm for sport and betting in this country is enormous. We can provide a product with the highest European standards and I am confident that it will be well received.
“It is a real milestone in the successful history of Interwetten, we are proving once again to be a first mover in the industry,” he added.
Interwetten announced a full-year revenue increase of 25% to €99.5m for 2019, marking the best annual performance since the company was founded in 1990.
