Italian giant Microgame signs rummy deal

ITALIAN GAMES SUPPLIER Microgame and rummy software provider RM Royal Media have signed a deal to incorporate rummy games into giant Italian player community The People’s Network.
The deal will see the game incorporated into the People’s Network, which is the biggest online player community in Italy with more 1.4 million users and which is managed by Microgame, within the first quarter of this year.
RM Royal Media chairman Udy Yosha said: “Italians proved to be enthusiastic players of Rummy. The collaboration with Microgame will allow us to tap into the regulated Italian market and its large customer base that is eager to play these games online.”
Founded in 1996, Microgame is Italy’s largest independent remote gaming service provider, with more than 1.3 million game accounts and market share in poker and sports betting of 25% and 28% respectively. Microgame’s 2008 gross gaming revenues exceeded 85m (£76m).
As reported on EGRmagazine.com, private equity firm Monitor Clipper Partners (MCP) took a majority share in Microgame from investment fund Cambria in October last year.
RM Royal Media provides the application of the rummy games with structure, game play and features very similar to most leading Poker applications.
The two companies plan to launch an advanced online multiplayer rummy network that focuses on Italian rummy variations such as Scala Quaranta, Burraco and Ramino, offered to players registered on the websites of the more than 60 gaming operators served by Microgame.
The new tie follows an October 2009 deal between Microgame and Net Entertainment for the delivery of NetEnt’s CasinoModule gaming platform. A year earlier, Parlay Entertainment and Microgame signed a deal with Parlay Entertainment to launch two online bingo networks.
