Italian regulator AAMS adds 23 more bets to official schedule as licence holders struggle to compete with black market

Italian gambling regulator Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli (AAMS) has added a number of new football markets to its rapidly expanding schedule of permitted bets.
The 23 new betting markets to have been added are a mixture of pre-match and live in-running offers and follow the 22 bets incorporated by the regulator in August.
The widening of the official schedule will be welcomed by operators under the dot.it regime which are only permitted to offer bets which have been given the green light by the regulator.
But operators are still waiting for approval for a number of operator specific customized bets which were initially planned to be ready for the start of the football season.
AAMS director of betting Luca Turchi told eGaming Review: “AAMS ultimately decides which kind of markets can be offered to the public. This is an ordinary activity for the betting department, whose role is to monitor the betting landscape and evaluate whether adding new markets to the official program.”
Writing for eGR, leading gaming lawyer and DLA Piper senior counsel Giulio Coraggio said AAMS will have to relinquish its tight grip of the market and lift some of its current restrictions to allow operators to compete against the black market operators.
“The official schedule creates relevant operational issues in terms of delay in the payment of bets and in the launch of new markets and does not allow operators to compete on the quality of their sports betting offering,” Coraggio said.
In addition, AAMS is also responsible for validating the results of sporting events which can often results in a slower turnaround of funds, preventing customers from reinvesting their money in other betting opportunities.
