Kylian Mbappé hits out at Winamax marketing mishap
PSG forward asks for respect after poker operator takes aim at Frenchman’s father in latest Twitter faux pas

French poker and sports betting operator Winamax has once again found itself at the centre of controversy after angering PSG star Kylian Mbappé.
Winamax, known for its tongue-in-cheek social presence, incurred the fury of the World Cup winner after tweeting an indecent image with the caption relating to the forward’s father.
France played South Africa in an international friendly on 29 March, with Mbappé scoring twice in a 5-0 win for Les Blues.
The caption read: “Wilfrid Mbappé lors de but de son fils contre l’ Afrique du Sud” with the English translation being Wilfrid Mbappé when his son scores against South Africa.
The accompanying crude image, which has since been deleted by the Winamax social media team, was not missed by Mbappé who took to Twitter himself to denounce the operator.

He said: “The danger of online betting […]no longer having a limit. A little respect please.”
However, Twitter users flocked to Mbappé’s tweet in an attempt to highlight his apparent hypocrisy.
Mbappé’s image is used throughout Unibet marketing as part of the Kindred Group-owned brand’s marketing deal with PSG.
The use of the 23-year-old’s image would not be something he would have control over as the image rights deal penned between PSG and Unibet would have included all players and logos for marketing use.
Earlier this year, Winamax lost its sponsorship partnership with Ligue 1 side Bordeaux after a series of mocking tweets.
Elsewhere, in 2020, French politicians called for the firm’s licence to be revoked following a homophobic tweet.
