Ladbrokes Belgium digital director departs
Former Unibet France country manager Gildas Tanguy shown door after just six months
Ladbrokes is looking for a new digital director for its Belgian operations following the departure of Gildas Tanguy, eGaming Review has learned.
Tanguy, who previously held roles with Unibet France, PokerStars and Betclic, was named as the operator’s first permanent boss of its Belgium-facing site just six months ago.
However a recent review of his role led to Tanguy exiting the business and his responsibilities will be picked up by international digital director Ian Catchick while the firm recruits for his replacement.
Tanguy was reporting into Ladbrokes’ Belgium managing director Alexis Murphy in the firm’s Brussels office, from which its 400-strong betting shop business and Ladbrokes.be site is run.
His appointment in March was in part designed allow Catchick, who had been interim digital director for Belgium since launching the business last year, to focus on Ladbrokes’ struggling Ireland business.
Today’s news follows Ladbrokes’ decision in June to axe its international team, with international managing director Damian Cope departing and nine other roles placed at risk of redundancy.
The operator said at the time the move came after a costs and efficiency review and wouldn’t impact operations in Belgium, Spain and Australia, which all have a locally based management team.
Following the restructure Australia MD Dean Shannon now reports directly to CEO Jim Mullen while the Belgium business led by Murphy reports into UK retail MD Lee Drabwell.
