Irish operator weighs up future of its first social betting product after removing BetDash from PaddyPower.com

Paddy Power has removed social sports betting game BetDash from its main website with its BetDash.com site down for “scheduled maintenance” as the Irish operator mulls the future of the critically acclaimed product, eGaming Review understands.
The betdash.com site been “down for scheduled maintenance” for several weeks, however, a decision has yet to be made on whether Paddys will remove the product permanently or release a revamped version.
eGR understands that many of the team working on the product have either left the company or are now working on its real-money Facebook app Paddy Power Social.
Speaking to eGR, Paddy Power Social marketing manager Jack Dinan said that a final decision on BetDash had yet to be decided.
“Whether the product’s future lies in a revamp or complete overhaul, Paddy Power will consider numerous options before making a decision on the next steps for BetDash,” he added.
The game contained numerous social features including a live feed, a ‘laugh at’ bets function and player challenges including turning £100,000 in virtual currency into a virtual £1m within 10 days.
The launch of the standalone social betting product was well received by critics and was rewarded with two prizes at last year’s eGR Operator Innovation Awards for innovative gaming start-up and innovation in affiliate marketing.
Last year the operator’s head of online Peter O’Donovan told eGaming Review the company would benefit from the experience it gained from BetDash with its Facebook marketing clout when launching Paddy Power Social.
Paddy Power Social beta-launched as Paddy Power In-Play on Facebook last year to become the first real-money sports betting app on the social network.
The social sportsbook underwent a complete redesign in May including a revamped landing page, a new ‘thumbs up’ logo and updated social features.
The operator has since unveiled a number of interface improvements as well as larger “acquisition and retention” drive prior to the start of the Barclay’s Premier League season.
