PokerStars backs thriving Portugal site with Ronaldo ad campaign
Recently launched Pokerstars.pt site already hosting third most cash-game players in the world

PokerStars has launched a new TV advertising campaign featuring Cristiano Ronaldo to support its recently-launched Portuguese site.
The campaign, called ‘The Game’, shows Ronaldo playing poker with a group of friends and will air across a variety of networks and platforms.
The PokerStars.pt site, which went live on 29 November, already boasts the third most cash game players in the world, according to PokerScout, behind only Pokerstars.com and 888poker.
The dot.pt site had a 7-day average of 1,800 cash game players, benefiting from its position as the only regulated poker platform in Portugal.
“It’s great to see the interest for poker in Portugal,” said Eric Hollreiser, vice president of corporate communications for PokerStars.
“Our tables have been busy and we hope to continue the excitement going forward, by potentially sharing many of the new and exciting formats that have launched in other territories.”
PokerStars said it was seeking regulatory approval to introduce its popular Spin&Go format, as well as adding slots to its online casino, and launching a sportsbook under the BetStars brand.
PokerStars also suggested the dot.pt site was performing even better than the PokerScout numbers, explaining that the figures did not track tournament liquidity.
The firm said in statement: “PokerStars.pt has already dealt over 36 million hands across real money cash games, multi-table tournaments and Sit & Go tournaments, as well as awarded more than €11 million to players in MTT’s and Sit & Go’s in 19 days.”
