PokerStars adds SMS verification
Security feature made available to all players - rolled out on a country by country basis

PokerStars has introduced a new SMS verification service in an effort to improve player account security.
The feature, which will be introduced in selected countries before eventually being rolled out worldwide, sees players sent a code by SMS if they opt in via the PokerStars client.
Players are sent further messages if irregularities with their account are identified, at which time real-money transactions are suspended pending the player in question entering their code.
“PokerStars is once again delivering on the importance of security for our customers,” PokerStars head of public relations Michael Josem said. “We were the first online poker operator to provide RSA Security Tokens and now the first online poker operator to offer this SMS security mechanism.”
“The service is free to all players and adds an additional security mechanism to help PokerStars player accounts remain safe and secure against online threats,” he added.
The Isle of Man-based operator also allows RSA security tokens, a separate form of two-step authentication, for all its players, with those at the highest level of its VIP system receiving the feature for free.
