Poll results: Colombian market appeals to international operators
Colombian lawyer Juan Camilo says three operators are applying for licences and planning to launch in the market before the World Cup

Colombia has become an attractive market for international operators, according to the majority of respondents to this week’s poll.
Approximately 62% of readers believe the jurisdiction, which is in the process of amending its legislation to be more operator friendly, will start to see an influx of interest from international operators.
Colombia passed its online gambling legislation back in May 2016, but since has been in the process of amending a number of requirements following operator feedback.
Potential changes could see less restrictive technical requirements as well as international shared liquidity on poker and exchange betting.
Speaking to EGR, Colombia lawyer Juan Camilo Carrasco said three operators were in the process of working on their licencing applications, on top of the nine that have been awarded since June 2017.
“I think the World Cup is seen as an important deadline as Colombia has qualified,” he added.
However, 38% of voters believe the market has some way to go before attracting the interest of the wider market.
Set-backs in implementing amendments to the law have been ongoing since last year, and Camilo has said upcoming presidential and congressional elections will likely slow the process even more.
