Poll results: DFS doomed to fail in the UK
Majority of voters believe FanDuel’s departure is a sign of things to come

DFS does not have a future in the UK, according to a strong majority of voters in this week’s poll.
Around 68% of respondents don’t believe it can compete in a market already dominated by fixed odds betting.
The question was prompted by FanDuel’s exit from the UK market last week, with the firm telling customers it was investing all its resources into the US-facing product ahead of the upcoming NFL season.
The operator had paid out less than £1m in prizes in its one year of operation, despite investing heavily in product.
However, 32% of voters said fantasy sports still has a market in the UK, with one Twitter respondent suggesting FanDuel’s move was prompted by the jurisdiction’s high acquisition costs.
Rival DFS operator DraftKings also reaffirmed its commitment to the UK, telling Legal Sports Report it was fully-committed to international expansion.
Sky Bet revealed it was also investing further in the local market, sealing a deal with DFS provider Dribble this week.
The London-based developer will provide the full scope of its real-money DFS content.
Commenting on the deal, Sky Bet MD Ted Moss said: “We’ve been watching the Daily Fantasy market flourish in the US, this will be our way of understanding how big this type of product could be on our shores.”
