Poll results: Dutch market will flourish despite competition
More than half of eGR readers say the Netherlands represents a good opportunity despite tough competition from foreign and local operators
The Dutch market represents an attractive opportunity for egaming operators despite it shaping up to be highly competitive, the majority of respondents to this week’s eGaming Review poll have said.
Just 9% of readers consider the Netherlands to be a large enough market to be profitable for many operators, perhaps an indication as to why many appear to be playing their cards close to their chests for the time being.
With a regulated online gambling market due to open in 2015, the fight for market share will undoubtedly be hotly contested. However some 56% of readers consider the Dutch market to represent a “reasonable opportunity” considering how competitive it may be.
Meanwhile 35% of respondents expect the Dutch market to be limited to those with local brand penetration and lucrative marketing budgets.
Nordic operator Betsson last week acquired the Dutch-facing casino brands Oranje and Kroon for 130m before company CEO Magnus Silfverberg said his firm would be the market leader as soon as the market is re-regulated, a claim disputed by Unibet CEO Henrik Tjärnström.
