Poll results: Time to tap into Eastern European potential
Majority of respondents to EGR poll agree the region presents huge opportunity for growth
Operators should be taking a serious look at Eastern Europe as a growth region given the regulatory progress being made there, according to the majority of respondents to this week’s eGaming Review poll.
When asked whether Eastern Europe – which consists of a fragmented and varied regulatory landscape – represents the next big egaming opportunity, more than half (55%) of voters agreed it was.
The Czech Republic, Romania, Poland have all made strides towards a licensed framework in recent months and several firms from outside the region have applied for local licences in Bulgaria.
However 45% of respondents believe it will be the local operators, many of which are retail giants, who will benefit most from a shift towards licensed frameworks.
Taxes for online operators are likely to be high and in cases, Hungary in particular, local laws heavily favour the local incumbents to the point of a monopoly.
eGaming Review will be hosting and Eastern Europe Online Gaming Summit on 30 June to discuss the challenges and opportunities of operating in the region.
