Poll Results: Widespread changes needed in French regulation
More than half of eGaming Review readers believe that France needs to make urgent and extensive changes to its current regulatory framework.

ARJEL’s third-quarter report on the French market showed a 23% year-on-year decline in amounts wagered in sport, prompting its president Jean-François Vilotte to call for taxation to be based on gross gaming revenue.
This follows a report by the Comité Consultatif des Jeux (CCJ), chaired by François Trucy, approved by the country’s Finance Committee in October, which came to the same conclusion.
However, this week’s poll shows that only 14% of readers believe this will be enough to halt the decline, and that far more radical measures need to be taken.
Changes to the tax system and an amendment to the 85% payback ratio to players appealed to around a quarter of those polled (23%), but more than half (51%) felt that a full scale shake-up is urgently needed.
These readers believe that the license registration process should be simplified, the 85% payback ratio should be amended and the taxation system should be based on gross gaming revenue, rather than amounts staked.
