Report: Slots more popular than Call of Duty on Twitch
Gambling enjoys spike on popular video-game streaming service despite petition to have category banned

Online slots meta has overtaken streaming of Call of Duty Warzone to become the ninth most-watched streaming category on Twitch.
A report from Rainmaker.gg, which works alongside streamer platform StreamElements, has the controversial category increasing in viewership during the month of May.
The popularity of slots streaming has increased by 24% over the course of May, racking up 39 million hours’ worth of views.
In comparison, Call of Duty streams notched 33 million hours’ worth of views on the Amazon-owned Platform.
The medium has been gaining popularity through streamers such as Felix ‘xQc’ who was, this week, reported to have dropped a ‘Big Win’ of around £677,000 on crypto betting site Stake.com before hitting the refresh button and, according to his stream, losing the lot.
Twitch streamer Trainwreck racked up the most views during May after having streamed his gambling for 300 hours during the 31 days.
There is a big gap between slots in ninth place and Dota 2 in eighth place on the top-10 for May, with the latter bagging 49 million hours of views during the month while Just Chatting is the most popular topic on Twitch with 271 million hours.
In May, a petition was launched with the aim of ban gambling streaming from appearing on Twitch, although has only generated just over 2,000 signatures to date.
Streamers often have lucrative deals with gambling sites, particularly crypto operators, to broadcast their sessions online.
However, opponents argue that streamers gambling recklessly and for long sessions, while it isn’t clear if they are actually gambling with their own money. This, in turn, could encourage their audiences to do the same, critics claim.
