Scicluna leaves Betclic Everest
Regulatory and corporate affairs head departs to set up law firm and consultancy business.

James Scicluna has left his role as chief of regulatory and corporate affairs at Betclic Everest after almost four years in the role.
Scicluna is the second major departure from the operator following new CEO Ignacio Martos’ restructuring of the business, after Betclic Expekt CEO Thomas Winter stepped down in December last year.
Under the new regime, Betclic Expekt’s operations have been divided into three separate regions, with Ricardo Domingues taking charge of Southern Europe; Tomasz Mazur overseeing Northern and Eastern Europe, and Marc Guigo responsible for French-speaking territories.
Scicluna told eGaming Review his departure was to set up his own law firm and consultancy business rather than a result of Betclic Everest’s recent restructuring. The firm, which was formed with as yet unnamed partners, will focus predominantly on the gambling industry, but will also work within the technology, media and financial services sectors, he said.
Scicluna added the company is already working with “a number of operators”, gaming machine manufacturers and service providers, advising on regulatory affairs, licensing, sponsorship, joint ventures and employment”.
After four years as a solicitor at Jeffrey Green Russell, Scicluna joined Betclic as general counsel in August 2008. His role was expanded to cover Expekt, before he was promoted to chief of regulatory and corporate affairs in March 2010. The company has not yet made an announcement regarding his replacement.
