SGA orders Cashalot to cease services in Sweden
Curaçao-based brand promoted its services in Swedish language without a licence

The Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA) has revamped its licensing requirements for betting and gaming operators in a bid to prevent illegal gambling.
The move was made in the same week that Curaçao-licensed company Indigo was blocked by the regulator after it provided its services to Swedish consumers without a licence.
The SGA discovered that both the Cashalot brand and the affiliates promoting it used Swedish language in marketing materials, while Swedish customers were allowed to sign up.
The regulator stated that the operator was given the opportunity to comment, but received no response.
Following this, the regulator updated measures concerning the provision of Swedish language and currency-based online services and outlined new policies relating to affiliate marketing and payments processing.
The SGA is in the process of developing greater cooperation across the industry and agencies such as the Swedish Consumer Agency, Swedish Tax Agency and Swedish Enforcement Agency, along with collaboration with the police and prosecutors.
