SHFL awarded Alderney gaming licence
Gaming supplier to step up B2B offering in regulated European markets.
SHFL entertainment has been awarded an unlimited Category 2 egaming licence by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission.
The licence will allow the gaming supplier formerly known as Shuffle Master to expand its B2B egaming operations across regulated European jurisdictions and also will allow the it to offer its proprietary table games, including Let It Ride, Casino War, Three Card Poker, and Ultimate Texas Hold’em, to its online B2B customers.
Gavin Isaacs, SHFL’s chief executive officer, said of the news: “We are excited to expand the reach and exposure of our growing online content portfolio, which includes some of the most compelling table game brands in the world.
“By enabling us to house our recently acquired equipment at a data center in Alderney, this licence allows us to be physically closer to the data centers of many of the world’s leading online gaming operators, resulting in better performance and closer content integration.”
Last month SHFL also received a remote gambling license from the Government of Gibraltar Licensing Authority, and appointed former Mansion head of product development Nick Gabriel as the new head of its online gaming division.
It changed its name from Shuffle Master to SHFL entertainment in October, with Isaacs describing it as a move designed to reflect the company’s broadening range of products, including egaming.
The company looked to be positioning itself for an assault on the egaming industry after agreeing to acquire the bwin.party-owned Ongame poker network earlier this year. At the time Isaacs explained: “Poker is a natural fit for our table-centric online offerings and our many jurisdictional licenses present a compelling opportunity for our current and future online customers.”
However the deal fell through in June with Isaacs citing lower-than-expected revenues from Ongame’s European operations as the primary reason for pulling out. Ongame was subsequently acquired by Amaya Gaming Group for a total cash consideration of up to 25m.
Elsewhere SHFL has already received its online poker licence in Nevada with its technology currently undergoing checks with the Silver State’s independent testing labs.
