Skrill unveils new mobile app
App designed to help with customer acquisition as smartphone usage continues to rise

Online payments provider Skrill has launched a new mobile app in response to the growing usage of smartphones.
According to Skrill, smartphone ownership has reached more than 50% of the population in countries such as France, Germany, Italy, Spain and UK with its new app coming as part of wider effort to move mobile payments innovation up its agenda.
Available on Android and iOS, the app will allow customers to access their account with a five-digit pin number where they can then make and receive payments, upload and withdraw funds and search transaction history.
“Mobile payments innovation forms a key aspect of our future plans at Skrill,” Mark Carter, VP of Skrill mobile, said. “We recognise that relevant and smooth payment experiences present a huge opportunity to provide consumers with an optimised mobile payment solution.”
Carter also said he expected the app would help operators gain a greater understanding of its customer base.
“Merchants will also benefit as they gain direct insight into customer behaviour in order to tailor offerings accordingly. The app will help with the acquisition of new customers and these customers should enjoy the compelling new user experience,” he said.
Last month, Skrill announced its intention to capitalise on the opening up of the US market after appointing former Skrill leisure and entertainment VP Joe Hall as vice president sales for its US arm.
