Sky Betting and Gaming sports MD steps down
Steven Monaghan departs Flutter-owned brand after almost eight years across marketing and managerial roles

Sky Betting and Gaming (SBG) sports managing director Steven Monaghan has stepped down after almost eight years with the firm.
Monaghan leaves his role with the Leeds-based bookmaker after nearly two years, having been promoted to the position in October 2020.
Monaghan originally joined SBG in November 2014 as a marketing manager before being promoted to head of football marketing in February 2016.
He then became head of sportsbook marketing in December 2016 followed by a promotion to head of commercial and marketing in July 2018.
In July 2019 he became Sky Bet’s UK marketing director where he oversaw the operator’s marketing operations including launching the first above the line campaign focused solely on safer gambling.
Monaghan’s first steps in the gambling industry came as a marketing executive with William Hill in 2008. He had a spell as a marketing executive at Sky in between leaving Hills and joining SBG.
Touching on his decision to step down, Monaghan praised his colleagues whilst also remaining coy on his immediate future.
Monaghan said: “If someone had told me when I first joined the company as a marketing exec, I would leave as MD of sports, along the way having met some of the most incredible, smart, talented people that I’m delighted to call my friends I never would have believed them, but here we are.
“It’s never an easy decision to step away from something you feel so close to but there comes a time when you have to push yourself for a change and a new challenge. That time for me is now and I’m excited to see what the next challenge will be,” he added.
