Sky Bet kicks-off live football streaming trial
Deal with Simplestream will see operator stream Sky Bet Championship, League 1 and League 2 play-off matches
Sky Bet is to stream live UK football matches for the first time as part of a month-long trial covering 15 matches in May.
The operator signed a deal with live streaming and catch-up TV services supplier Simplestream to give sportsbook customers access to the play-off matches in England’s Sky Bet-sponsored Championship, League 1 and League 2 competitions across both mobile and desktop devices.
The short-term deal will begin with tonight’s Championship clash between Brighton & Hove Albion and Derby County.
It is understood the trial is designed to assess the appetite of its customers for the content and the deal will be reviewed once the Football League play-offs have come to an end.
Sky Bet currently offers live streaming on Spanish La Liga football matches, as well as a wide range of horse racing.
“As the official sponsor of The Football League and the play-offs, streaming all 15 games to Sky Bet customers is a really exciting initiative and we are really pleased with the Simplestream technology solution,” Conor Grant, Sky Bet’s director of products, said.
