Sky Bet rolls out "industry first" Touch ID mobile log in
Operator due to complete full roll-out of functionality later today after "overwhelmingly positive" feedback
Sky Betting & Gaming has become the first egaming operator to integrate Apple’s TouchID technology into a mobile betting application this week, eGaming Review can reveal.
The operator integrated the technology into its Sky Bet sportsbook app and conducted internal testing prior to a phased roll-out of the functionality on Tuesday after receiving approval from Apple.
Customers can log into the app using their fingerprint instead of a password or PIN, and internal testing revealed customers could log into their account up to four times quicker using the process.
Andrew Walton, head of mobile at Sky Betting & Gaming, told eGR this morning the functionality was initially introduced to 10% of its customer base on Tuesday before a number of checks were conducted to ensure the log-in process was unaffected.
TouchID was then rolled out to 50% of SkyBet customers yesterday morning and a full roll-out is due to be completed later today.
Walton said the feedback it had received so far had been “overwhelmingly positive”.
“We really wanted to be first to market in our sector and we’re chuffed to do so. I think it’ll become far more common in the near future,” Walton added.
Last year Sky Bet became the first mobile gambling operator to launch a seamless log in function to its portfolio of mobile apps, a capability a number of operators have since introduced to their own product suites.
