Smarkets unveils debut mobile app
Exchange operator says new product “performed well” during first major betting event at Cheltenham

Exchange operator Smarkets has unveiled its first app, including a new trade-out feature that allows users to exit their market positions with one click.
The firm soft launched the app just before the Cheltenham Festival, during which Smarkets said it had “performed well” after several months of internal testing.
The app includes an in-play feature where punters can ask for their unmatched pre-game bets to be offered in-running, as well as an automatic trade-out button.
“We quietly released the app just before the Cheltenham Festival and were delighted to see it perform well during one of the busiest weeks in the year for us.
“Smarkets customers were able to trade and manage their position on the go like never before with us, thanks to new features like trade out and keep bets in-play.
“It’s been on the cards for quite a while and we’ve been testing it internally for a few months, so it’s great to see it out there at last. I think it’s a big deal for both us and our users.”
The London-headquartered company said it saw a total of £137.9m traded on the 28 Cheltenham Festival races, up 52% on 2016, in part thanks to a 0% commission offer on the first races of each day.
