
Spain revenues up 20% in Q1 as online poker revenues decrease
Sports betting and online casino continue double-digit rises as poker and bingo falters


Spanish gross gaming revenues rose by 20.10% year-on-year during the first quarter of 2019, according to the latest market report from the Spanish regulator (DGOJ), with first quarter revenues hitting €193.3m (£171.4m).
Revenues from sports betting, which accounts for 52% of total GGR generated during the quarter, rose by 11.5% y-o-y to €100.8m in Q1.
The biggest percentage rise was reported in online casino, with revenues rising 20.1% y-o-y to €67.1m during the quarter. Online casino accounted for 35% of total GGR generated during the period.
Poker revenues, which had grown by double digits during previous quarters decreased by 1.4% y-o-y during Q1 2019, with revenues generated of €21.2m, or 11% of total GGR generated in Q1 2019.
The biggest percentage decline during Q1 2019 was in bingo revenues, which dropped 8.6% y-o-y to €3.2m, or 1.66% of all gross gaming revenues generated during the first quarter of 2019.

Marketing spend during the quarter hit €92.3m, increasing by almost 22% year on year. Spend on advertising accounted for more than half of this figure, or €47.9m, while marketing on promotions hit €29.3m.
Affiliate marketing revenues accounted for €10.2m of the total marketing spend during Q1, while spend on sponsorships rounded out the total marketing expense during the period accounting for just €4.9m.
