
Spanish digital revenues jump 23%
Online casino continues to surge with revenues up more than 50% year-on-year


Spanish online gaming revenues climbed 23% year-on-year to €121.2m in Q2, according to new figures from the country’s regulator Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ).
Sports betting remained the biggest vertical at €60.1m, up 12% on the same period last year, with live betting accounting for more than two-thirds of total revenues.
Casino was the second largest vertical but enjoyed the quickest growth, up 53% on the same period last year to €42.9m.
Roulette made up nearly half of the casino total, with slots at 39% and Blackjack at 14%.
Poker, the third largest vertical, grew 5% year-on-year to €14.4m, with tournament revenues growing 21% while cash game revenues dropped 13%. The country is expected to have shared liquidity with three other European markets by the end of the year.
Bingo revenues increased 30% to €2.8m.
“The industry is behaving positively and the data shows its stable evolution puts it on track to surpass €500m GGR in 2017,” said Spanish gaming consultant Eduardo Morales Hermo.
The country’s 2016 FY revenues hit €429m, on turnover of €10bn.
The country is expected to open a new licensing window in Q4, which could be the last for a “very long time” according to those familiar with the situation.
