
Spanish online gambling revenue jumps 10% in Q1 2021
Online casino jumped 28% during first three months of 2021 as sports betting stuttered


Spanish market online gambling revenue (GGR) rose by 10.2% year-on-year for Q1 2021 to €240.08m, according to the latest figures from the country’s gambling regulator (DGOJ).
The DGOJ noted sports betting accounted for 45.9% of total GGR for the period at €110.3m, while online casino represented 41.4% at €99.5m.
In terms of sports betting, the DGOJ revealed sports betting GGR fell by 0.25% annually, while pre-match bets increased 27.8%. Live in-play betting fell by -7.7% year-on-year with an 8.3% increase in so-called other bets.
Online casino GGR rose by 28.3%, punctuated by a 54.4% annual growth spike in live roulette and a 26.8% increase in slot machine play.
Online poker GGR increased by 3.1% year-on-year to €24.95m, with a 13.7% increase in tournament poker games and a 17.9% decrease in cash poker games during the quarter.
Bingo revenue fell by 2.4% to €3.6m during Q1, while revenue from contests also decreased annually by 7.6% to €1.7m.
Deposits amounted to €737.8m during Q1, up 40.4% year-on-year, while withdrawals rose by 51.4% to €497.8m in the same period.
Marketing spend of Spanish-licensed operators rose by 23.8% annually for Q1 to €148.3m, broken down into €12.4m for affiliate marketing, €8.5m in sponsorships, €56m in promotions and €71.5m in ad expenditure.
Monthly average active and new player accounts rose by 22.7% and 43.5% respectively.
