Spanish regulator launches digital self-exclusion app
People at risk from problem gambling in Spain can now self-exclude online without having to visit DGOJ headquarters

Spanish gambling regulator DGOJ has launched a mobile app to make it easier for people struggling with gambling addiction to self-exclude from betting services in the country.
Users at risk from problem gambling can now use mobile devices to sign up to The General Registry of Gambling Access Interdictions (RGIAJ) to limit access to betting and gaming sites.
Once the app has been downloaded, users will be able to enter their basic identity data which will automatically generate a digital application form.
Previously, the only way to self-exclude was physically at authorised registry offices or at the electronic headquarters of the DGOJ.
“The protection of vulnerable customers is one of the pillars on which gambling regulation is based, and the market cannot be developed in a socially sustainable way without protection instruments being available to everyone,” the DGOJ said in a statement.

The new app, which has been developed in collaboration with the National Police Force (CNP) and the National Currency and Stamp Factory (FNMT-RCM), is now available on Android devices.
In June 2018, web analytics company StatCounter reported that 80.08% of smartphone users in Spain own Android devices, while just 19.32% use iOS software on iPhones.
