Spotlight Sports Group promotes internally for new CEO
Mark Renshaw takes over from Alan Byrne in strategic shift at the affiliate as succession plan comes into effect

Spotlight Sports Group (SSG) has announced that current chief operating officer Mark Renshaw will take the reins as CEO from Alan Byrne.
The firm announced this change is in line with its long-term succession plan, as Renshaw, who has been with the firm for 14 years, will move into the role with immediate effect.
Byrne will remain at the business as a director and will also assume a new advisory role at SSG.
A company stalwart, Renshaw originally joined Racing Post in November 2008 as head of digital before being named MD of digital in January 2016.
Following the group’s rebrand into SSG, Renshaw was named COO in January 2020.
Renshaw has also spent time at Sporting Index Group, Sportingbet and Golfbreaks.com earlier in his career.
On his appointment, Renshaw said: “Alan, I and our management team have spent the last few months crystallising exactly where we can accelerate growth and find new areas of opportunity.
“We’re absolutely clear on where we want to take SSG, and I am tremendously excited about the path we’re on to grow our people and our business.
“My thanks go to Alan for all of his support during our time working together, and I am delighted he is allowing us to leverage his remarkable experience in his new capacity,” he added.
Byrne commented: “It is a delight to see Mark appointed. He has been at the heart of most of the best things SSG has achieved in recent years, and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with him. I know Mark has all of the skills required to lead the excellent SSG team and will continue to drive the growth of the company in the UK, North America and beyond.”
