Bingo ‘super affiliate’ UnluckyForSome is to launch a marketing push centred on ‘bingo wings’, the British slang term for loose underarm fat on often older women.
To the chagrin of bingo marketers seeking to promote bingo to a younger demographic, the bingo comparison site plans to launch an advertising campaign called ‘Show Us Your Bingo Wings,’ and has said it wants to hire an “obese young woman” to feature in it.
Adverts for the ‘star’ of the planned TV advert have been placed in job centres, and ten shortlisted candidates will be invited to a ‘Bingo Wings Idol-style’ casting session in London next month.
An UnluckyForSome spokesman said: “We’re looking for a big, beautiful woman aged 18-50. Perhaps they don’t think of themselves as conventionally beautiful but have loads of energy and confidence all the same.
“We’re sick of seeing pencil thin models promoting everything from make-up to washing powder so need your help. If you, or someone you know, is big and beautiful then we want to hear from you.”
However a study of the bingo market by market research business Mintel reported on EGRmagazine.com suggests that the ‘bingo wings’ term could soon be outdated, concluding that “the past decade has seen a radical change in the age and social status of the typical bingo players [with] greater numbers of young and affluent people drawn into the market.”
As reported on EGRmagazine.com yesterday, PartyGaming has ramped up its investment in bingo with the purchase of Foxy Bingo owner Cashcade, and plans to focus on the growing bingo market in continental Europe.
UnluckyForSome is one of four bingo ‘super affiliates’ that recently discussed forming an ‘affiliate super group’ to discuss relations with operators.
