Tipico launches over-the-counter deposit app

App enables punters to top-up online accounts in thousands of shops and petrol stations
Tipico has launched a prepaid deposit mobile app which enables punters to top-up their online accounts using cash at a large number of retail pay points across Germany.
Tipico Pay, which was developed in partnership with payment company Funanga, was initially launched in Austria at the end of last year and after a successful trial period has been rolled-out to Tipicoâs biggest market.
The app release means German customers can now top-up their online accounts at thousands of pay points including  kiosks, petrol stations and well known retail chains.
âTipico Pay is unique in that it is the first cash collection payments app in Germany and Austria, thus providing Tipicoâs customers with a unique deposit app,â Dominic Sauer, head of corporate communications, said.
âIt is ideal for users who would rather avoid using their card for online transactions,â he added.
Once selecting an amount to deposit, a barcode is generated on the mobile screen which is then used to confirm the deposit with the cashier at a participating sales outlet. As soon as the deposit is credited to the account, the customer will receive a notification in the app.
Earlier this year Tipico was bought for around â¬1bn by private equity house CVC Capital Partners, while last month the firm appointed former bwin.party COO Joachim Baca as its new chief executive officer following the departure of Jan Bolz.
