TV gambling ads to show responsible gambling messages throughout
New rules to take effect from June following latest update to Industry Code on responsible advertising

UK television gambling adverts should display a responsible gambling message for the duration of the ad, according to new industry rules announced today.
The Industry Group for Responsible Gambling (IGRG) this morning revealed the latest version of its Industry Code for Socially Responsible Advertising, which aims to ease some of the government and public scrutiny on gambling adverts.
The new rules, which come into force at the end of June 2018, mean each television advert must carry a responsible gambling message or a reference to www.begambleaware.orgthroughout.
IGRG chairman John Hagan said: “As part of a wider package of measures flowing from the Government’s review, we believe this change to the Industry Code will help to improve the overall tone and content of gambling adverts, especially on television, in a way that will help to raise awareness of the need to gamble safely and responsibly.
“In addition, we are happy to reiterate our commitment to review the Code on an annual basis in order to consider any emerging issues.”
The IGRG is currently comprised of the Association of British Bookmakers; BACTA; the Bingo Association; National Casino Forum; and the Remote Gambling Association.
The updated version of the code, which can be found by clicking here, reflects the growing movement towards self-regulation in the industry, with Australian bookmakers recently backing advertising restrictions of their own Down Under.
