UK operators post 2% dip in online GGY for Q3 2022
World Cup fails to drive major GGY leap despite increases in number of bets and average active accounts

Online UK operators returned a 2% year-on-year (YoY) decrease in gross gambling yield (GGY) in Q3 2022, according to the latest data from the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC).
Online firms returned GGY of £1.2bn in October, November and December and despite the winter World Cup, reported a slight dip in the metric.
The UKGC said the decline was principally driven by declines in real event betting and casino.
Online real event betting GGY fell by 3% to £446m despite the number of bets increasing by 21% YoY and the amount of average monthly active accounts jumping by 20%.
Online casino GGY slipped by 8% to £159.7m and slots GGY dipped by 2% to £582m during the quarter.
Once again, the downturn in GGY was accompanied by an increase in activity.
The number of spins jumped by 8% to 19.7 billion and average monthly active accounts increased by 13% to 3.7 million.
The number of online slots sessions lasting more than an hour increased by 11% to break the nine million barrier for the first time.
The number of total sessions rose by 21%, with 6.5% of all sessions lasting more than an hour.
Elsewhere, poker GGY fell by 11.6% to £17.6m.
The number of customer interactions decreased by 10% YoY to 2.9 million, with a majority of those being automated.
However, the number of direct interactions undertaken by operators in this increased by 32%.
