UK regulator beefs-up for new regulatory regime
Gambling Commission seeks additional industry experience as it advertises for three new management roles

The UK Gambling Commission is looking to bolster its industry knowledge in preparation for the new regulatory landscape after creating three new management roles.
The Commission is currently seeking candidates that have gained previous experience within the online gambling industry and the field of sports betting in order to fill the positions of senior online specialist, online specialist and betting sector specialist.
According to the job descriptions, the roles entail offering “expert advice and guidance to colleagues and stakeholders” as well as managing “key relationships with operators and industry bodies”.
The regulator will be tasked with regulating both UK-based and overseas operators once the Point of Consumption (PoC) framework comes into force as expected this summer.
The Birmingham-based regulator currently employs a team of more than 200 and, despite the trio of vacancies, doesn’t expect this number to swell significantly in the run up to PoC implementation.
“The Commission is preparing for the proposed changes but the scale and scope of our existing cross-functional teams in areas such as enforcement, legal, intelligence gathering and player protection means we already have significant experience and expertise to draw on,” a Gambling Commission spokesman said.
“All of these [new] roles will build on that knowledge as we seek to attract high quality people to supplement our existing team,” he added.
The precursor for the new framework is the Gambling Bill, which is currently at the latter stages of the Parliamentary process and is expected to be given Royal Assent next month, with the licence application window opening two months thereafter.
The Commission previously said it was expecting as many as 200 licence applications to be made with some concerned about the strain the workload may have on current staffing levels.
