Unibet's standalone poker product to launch next week
Initial release of Relax Gaming-powered poker product to take place on 19 February with wider roll-out in coming weeks
Unibet is to release its new standalone poker product next week as it begins its migration away from the Microgaming Poker Network.
The Swedish-listed operator has been working on the product for several months and an initial launch will take place on 19 February, with a wider roll-out of the product planned to take place in subsequent weeks.
The new product, which features software developed for both Unibet and its Maria brand by Relax Gaming, comes after the operator also invested 1.25m in the Estonia-based supplier.
Unibet revealed it was to leave the MPN in December 2013, with the company stating that being a part of a poker network was “not sustainable for Unibet in the long term”.
Speaking to eGaming Review after yesterday’s results announcement, Unibet CEO Henrik Tjärnström said the product would be released across multiple platforms and confirmed he expected the vertical to “continue to grow upwards” following the release.
The offering is to be aimed primarily at recreational players with a focus on a tablet-optimised product, with Tjärnström noting that the company had experienced issues relating to screen sizes during the product’s development.
The release follows Unibet announcing record profits for 2013, following a particularly strong performance in regulated Western European markets such as France and the UK, however, poker struggled across the year with gross winning revenue down 23% to £11.3m.
